one of our meyer family members volunteers for the "share the beach" program that searches for turtle nests and ists with the hatchlings. turtle nesting season is from may to october and thousands of baby turtles have taken their first steps on our shores before heading to the gulf waters. we took a camera along in case we did see some baby turtles early saturday morning on the atv ride from the fort at fort morgan to the national wildlife refuge. unfortunately, we didn't spot any baby turtles this weekend, but we didn't spot any oil or tarballs on our ride either we did spot several hot air balloons in our beautiful blue skies. meyer was a sponsor of the hot air balloon festival this weekend in foley. over 45 balloonists from all over the country came to the coast. families enjoyed the children's village, food, music and of course the "glow". today was the first day of zoo camp at the alabama gulf coast zoo - the little zoo that could. over a hundred wanna-be-zookeepers were glowing as they wanted to be up close and personal with the animals this is a great opportunity to learn about caring for the animals while having a ton of fun
