i wonder if all, or most, deist arrive at deism simply through the exercise of reason. some do, but most, like myself, migrate from christianity to deism, from a church based belief in god to a non churched belief in god. i read somewhere that around 25 of the population believe in a god but not prophets, priests, holy books, revelations etc. etc. etc. if true there are proably about as many deists as protestants and we are growing some of those may go to church out of old habits but really no longer believe most of what their churches teach. i believe in one god and zero priests, preachers, churches, holy books, prophets and other wannabe god owners. i think i live in a created and awesome universe that science and tge power of reason can help me understand more deeply. i think life is a gift and it was expected and part of some plan far greater than myself. human consciousness was a goal not a product of chance. deism is a big tent religion. deism: check it out. music from village tales.

i go through the bible rigorously so that i can get an approximation to the date of creation of the universe as it is told explicitly in the bible. this is for those who think the bible "doesn't say how old the earth is". well the bible actually does say the age from adam when he started aging to jesus, with only three fuzzy times. now there will be those who say, but wait a minute. genesis 1 says that there was a day before there was a sun and earth, so they aren't literal days of creation. well i didn't even get to that period. you can do that yourself. if you take "one day to god is a thousand years to us" route, then simply add 7000 years to 4183 bc that way you will get the creation of the universe. or you know what just play with the numbers yourself and tell me what you get. make a comment. my point is that the bible literally implies a young earth, which is anti-science, if there is such a thing. but if you have a more liberal view then i guess i can't complain.
