this top is termed a dual axis "orbiting" trick top because it spins both normally on its point while the stem is pointing upwards, and on the tip of its stem in a circular ie "orbiting" pattern. this is due to its specially formed stem tip which guides the top in this orbiting motion when spun upside down. in this video the top is being spun in the conventional manner, but there is an additional video of the top being spun upside down. jesse kohl began lampworking at the age of fourteen under the tutelage of paul trautman jr., the founder of northstar glworks. he continued his study under the renowned lampworker and colorist suellen fowler. these individuals left kohl with an interest in gl that spanned both the artistic and scientific realms. while employed as the technical director of northstar glworks, jesse developed novel colored gles, offered seminars internationally in the use and application of colored borosilicate gl, and authored a monthly publication on the subject. he has taught at the studio of the corning museum of gl, the staatliche glasfachschule in hadamar germany, and the pittsburgh gl center, as well as demonstrating at the new orleans gas conference, the 2005 isgb conference, and the gltec convention in germany. his work has been displayed at kittrell riffkind in dallas tx, gloryhole gl in santa fe nm, the fireborne gallery in portland or, and at the corning museum of gl store in corning, ny. during his undergraduate ltbgt...lt bgt
