tony vega is a monster in de aankondiging van diens eerste concert in cambrinus maakten we dankbaar gebruik van deze uitspraak die de commentaren in de amerikaanse muziekbladen illustreert. en niets was minder waar, zij het dat tony vega een zeer aimabel man blijkt zodra hij zijn gitaar aflegt. en als we zelf een krachtterm op diens optreden mochten plakken, dan zou dat 'spetterend' zijn. want dat was wat zanger-gitarist tony vega, bist anne-maarten van heuvelen we kennen hem van no blues en drummer theo thumper deden: spetteren texas-kanon tony vega en deze twee nederlanders... een gedreven bluesband met een ongekende drive in de amerikaanse muziekbladen wordt de gitarist met zijn band omschreven als een mix van de fabulous thunderbirds en stevie ray vaughan. het blad real blues magazine over deze rijzende bluesster uit texas: "als je hem eenmaal hebt gehoord, begrijp je waarom vega en zijn band in texas en europa hoge ogen gaan gooien en als een 'hot' band omhoog schieten". dat dit blad zulks niet uit zijn duim heeft gezogen kunnen we beamen, gezien zijn optreden in cambrinus. op dezelfde avond van zijn optreden werd de afspraak voor een tweede gemaakt. vanmiddag dus...
