much like the first variety tent in philadelphia, variety of eastern tennessee was born out of the spirit of helping children. two children, francine and ryan who happen to be the children of parents within the entertainment industry, inspired the eastern tennessee chapter. both children were born with special needs, but they also possess inspiring spirit and determination to overcome their disabilities. variety of eastern tennessee - ryan and francinewith the help of regal cinemas, led by mike campbell chairman ceo and greg dunn president coo, francine and ryan's inspiration culminated in the founding of the eastern tennessee chapter chapter 81 of variety in 2001. the variety organization is a longstanding charity in the entertainment industry, whose mission is to help disadvantage or disabled children. pictured at right: ryan and francine in 2002, a third-generation entertainment executive from denver moved to knoxville. his wife, dena, had been instrumental at variety's denver chapter following the tragedy at columbine high school. she had umed the reins of a local radiothon and helped raise over s800000 for the new high school library. as a result of that experience, dena decided to devote herself to full-time charity and fundraising work. so when the new eastern tennessee chapter needed an executive director, we had the best of the best right here, already setting up house in the neighborhood. since that fateful year, chapter 81 has raised over s2000000.00 ltbgt...lt bgt

the long beach museum of art is located on ocean blvd, in the bluff park neighborhood of long beach. the museum occupies the historic 1912 elizabeth milbank anderson house and carriage house both attributed to architect charles alonzo rich, and a new two-story pavilion, and includes oceanfront gardens wikipedia. currently featured is an exhibition called a light in the shadow - decades of art by women, fascinating works providing insight into the experiences of female artists. it runs thru jan. 2, 2011. surf amp turf the museum is there for the art, but the views are just spectacular, especially from the patio dining area. claire's restaurant features a great blackened salmon blt and their 5-cheese ravioli. for breakfast, try their creative crème brulée french toast. claire's is also known for its crazy fountain, which they thankfully turn off when the afternoon breezes kick up. it's open tue-fri, 11-3, and sat sun from 8-3. come on the weekend for a great breakfast or brunch. it's a family-oriented place with terrific views. reservations aren't always needed, but to be safe, call them at 562-439-2119 x-270. also, check out the museum store. it's small, but has collectables, nice books on art and some intriguing art jewelry. that special feeling the museum grounds and restaurant are available for weddings and other catered gatherings, such as birthday parties especially those "significant dates", graduation parties, etc. los angeles magazine recommends it consider ltbgt...lt bgt
