he cracked the door open, hoping not to look desperate. he peeked through and saw her distinct features, smiling in the dim light under his porch. her thin and taut body was supporting a well-fitting black tank top and jean shorts. her feet were covered in sneakers and she had a smile in her lips. he tried to not stare at the differences in her. her hair was separated into two sections and braided down, reaching her shoulders. "hey," he said, casually swinging his apartment door open all the way. the differences were as clear as the days she spent in south america, under the hot sun and near the breezy ocean. her once jet-black hair had been sun-kissed and was now an ugly and uneven brown. she didn't seem to mind. her skin, which had been a contrasting pale color, was now tanned unevenly. of course she grew up—she was taller and more woman-shaped, and more beautiful than she had been before. the only thing that didn't seem to change were her shiny maple-colored eyes. "hey." the two stared. she examined him the exact same way. his hair was longer and spiked neatly, not as crazy as it had been when they were little. his gles were gone and he had contacts in. he wore thick-looking gray jeans and a bright green polo. his features have changed tremendously, and with just one look she knew that he had dated a lot while she was gone. that guess—which was also a fact—made her hurt a little. her best friend had grown up so much over the missed years.
