dedicated volunteers from elgin street public school are currently working on an exciting community development project to re-develop our community park jack purcell park, serves the needs of elgin street public school, jack purcell community centre and all children living in downtown ottawa. the goals of the project are: 1 implement an accessible play structure and accessible surfacing for children of all abilities ages 0-12. 2 yard beautification- through tree planting. our yard is affected by the emerald ash borer beetle and eventually all of the trees in the park will die as a result. the emerald ash borer is a non-native, highly destructive wood-boring beetle that feeds under the bark of ash trees. all species of ash are susceptible to attack. it poses a major environmental threat to urban areas in ottawa. what is an accessible structure accessibility is the urance that persons with disabilities may travel to locations where specific measures adaptations have been put in place, where a site and its facilities that can be approached, entered, and used by people, including those with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities and to create a general level of usability for children with disabilities. accessible playgrounds are designed to meet the needs of children and families of all abilities. the playground will enable children and parents of all abilities to play together.
