the third in a series of four scheduled political forums, sponsored by the expositor, was held june 24, at white county middle school, and included two mayoral candidates and four at-large candidates for city aldermen. candidates addressed questions that were gathered from several sources, including those submitted by white county residents and representatives of the democratic and republican parties, as well as from those in the audience. participating in the forum were incumbent mayor tommy pedigo and challenger jeff young, incumbent aldermen hoyte jones and bobby officer, and challenger aldermen candidates jim floyd and thor mcneil. moderator kim wood, editor of the expositor, explained a small change in the format in the forum. in previous forums, members of the audience were allowed to ask questions directly to the candidates. in this and the upcoming forum, audience questions were to be submitted in writing and given to the moderator to ask the questions over the microphone. woods stated the purpose of the change was to expedite the process, help provide more clarity to the questions being asked and to allow the questions to be heard by all in attendance. the questions posed to the candidates covered a range of topics from taxes, jobs and current infrastructure needs to future plans for the city, opinions on sparta's ability to improve tourism and thoughts on a potential metropolitan government. candidates for the road superintendent, register of deeds, school ltbgt...lt bgt
