this story originally aired on june 18, 2010. the san francisco commission of animal welfare is considering proposing a ban of birds and small animals in pet stores. the proposed ban was based on the theory that pet sales were related to animal relinquishment when in reality, animal relinquishment is related to a variety of situations. these include life changes such as divorce, losing a job, losing a home and serious illness. all may cause the need to rehome a bird or animal. all have not been directly related to where the animal was purchased.
