based on the ps3 interactive story. - a request by several and it's difficult to argue that a narrative this personal, this tight, but also this deep would be a welcome addition to filmmaking. this was one of my most challenging requests to date since i decided to approximate the whole thing using live action footage. - the experience of the game would be lost in translation, but the cinema offers a whole new venue of experiences and storytelling opportunities. - the story concerns several people who seem to have little in common a grieving father, a mysterious woman, a veteran private detective and an fbi agent. these ordinary people find themselves all involved in the case of a notorious serial murderer of children dubbed the origami killer because of his habit of leaving origami figurines on the chests of his victims. the father's son has been kidnapped and is feared will be the killer's next victim, and his quest to find the boy plunges him into a series of deadly tests to prove his love, tests which will throw him into contact with the other characters in this drama even as they go about their own lives. there's no magic or monsters here and the minor science fiction elements amount to nothing more then forensic tools. heavy rain is first and foremost a character piece and manages to prove real life can be a harrowing adventure by itself.
