a tribute to the one and only betty grable. this beautiful song,'betty grable', is written and performed by the great neil sedaka, it's completely dedicated to the memory of ms grable. betty grable was the biggest star in the movies in the 1940's to mid 50's. she was an immensly gifted dancer, actress and singer. she was born elizabeth ruth grable in st.louis, missouri, in 1916. she began in films in 1929, at age 12 and was one of the 20 original goldwyn girls, her first film roles were very small, she was usually just a chorus girl. throughout the 30's she had many bit parts in low budget musicals, and some starring roles. in 1939, the public finally took notice, thanks to her great performance in the broadway musical "du barry was a lady". then in 1940, she was given the lead role in the technicolor musical 'down argentine way'- the reason she got the part was beucase alice faye, fox biggest musical star in the 1930's who was supposed to play the part, suddenly fell ill and betty got the part. she was a huge hit, the public fell in love with her, the rest is history. in her next film she actually starred alongside alice faye in tin pan alley,a great musical which has become a clic. alice and betty stayed friends for life. grable was the highest paid woman in america in the 1940's, and 20th century fox insured her legs for a million dollars. she had two daughters with husband harry james, she was married to him from 1943 to 1965. betty was always very easy to work ltbgt...lt bgt
